The Yamaha XSR 900 has a fair share of fans around the world, and for good reason. After all, it blends modern features and punchy performance with a gorgeous retro design–a trifecta only some motorcycles successfully boast. But what if we told you this could get even better, particularly design-wise? Don’t believe us? Well, you better, as Yamaha has unveiled two smashing kits for the flagship XSR that transform it into a 70s cafe racer. Oh, and they won’t break the bank either.

An Akrapovic exhaust comes standard on the Blood Line Style kit

The body kits come from Y’s Gear, which handles Yamaha’s Genuine Accessories in Japan. The first set - dubbed Blood Line Style - comprises a sporty headlight cowl, fuel tank cover, pillion seat cowl, and side covers, all draped in a white-red livery inspired by the Yamaha YZR500 WGP racer. In addition, the rear cowl has yellow graphics on the sides to mimic the number plates of old race bikes, while the headlight mask flexes a swept-back windscreen also like old race bikes. Couple this with the fender eliminator and radiator covers, and the XSR looks spirited as ever. Meanwhile, an Akrapovic exhaust, adjustable levers, and a performance damper elevate the performance.

Unlike the Blood Line, the second set focuses on long-distance riding. Called the Touring Style, it features the same headlight and seat cowls, albeit in a blue or black finish to match the XSR’s stock colorways. The touring ability, meanwhile, is boosted by a set of soft panniers, tank grips, performance damper, and heated grips. To make life even easier and safer, there’s also a lower monoshock link and crash guards, respectively.

If you want just the headlight and seat cowls, it'll cost you less than $900 (barring shipping)

Coming to prices, the Blood Line Style and Touring Style kits are priced at 630,190 Yen (~$4,800) and 344,300 Yen (~$2,626), respectively. Though this might seem steep, most of these components are available as à la carte to make our life easier. For instance, the blue color body kit (with a headlight and seat cowl) costs just 107,000 Yen (~$816) while the white-red kit (with headlight cowl, tank covers, seat cowl, and front fender) retails at 220,000 Yen (~$1,678). That’s a pretty good deal, if you ask us, even when you account for the shipping.

As for the motorcycle, Yamaha USA has priced the 2022 XSR 900 at $10,199. It justifies the money with its 890cc, triple-cylinder engine that pumps out 117 horsepower and comes mated to a plethora of electronics. These include a six-axis IMU, wheelie control, traction control, ride modes, bi-directional quickshifter, and slide control–all topped by a TFT instrument cluster. You also get fully adjustable upside-down forks and monoshock. So, what’s your take on these body kits? Would you place an order? Let us know in the comments.
