Toyota initially unveiled the Supra GT4 as a concept car at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, and the production version followed in October of the same year. Sales began in March 2020, and since then, the maker sold more than 50 units that earned over 100 podium finishes and 50 class wins in 11 national and international GT4 championships. As a celebration of the car's 50th victory, Toyota also built the special GR Supra GT4 "50 Edition." Since the plan is to keep the Supra competitive against its main rivals, Toyota Gazoo Racing just launched the updated GR Supra GT4 EVO - a racer built according to feedback from current owners and that now offers improved brakes, handling, and performance.

The EVO features an improved Brembo brake system design with six-piston racing calipers and 390 mm brake discs up front and four-piston racing calipers and 355 mm brake discs in the rear. There is also an improved suspension system featuring the latest KW damper technology and updated anti-roll bar specification. The car rides on OZ 11x18 inches wheels wrapped in Pirelli tires. According to Toyota, all these changes made the GT4 EVO "easier to drive for ambitious amateur drivers whilst it also provides the precise performance demanded by professional racers."

Just like the road-going Supra, the GT4 Evo is powered by a 3.0-liter, six-cylinder, turbocharged engine, but with some significant updates. For the racer, the engine features a new Marelli ECU, while the driveline features a new differential and driveshaft. There is also a new Akrapovic racing exhaust system with catalytic converter and a modified ZF automatic transmission with paddle shifter that sends power to the rear wheels through the updated driveline. Toyota did not reveal how much power the updated engine delivers, but said its torque goes up to 660 Nm (485 pound-feet of torque). For the sake of comparison, the road-legal Supra delivers 335 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. Nevertheless, thanks to its updated engine and driveline, the new GT4 EVO will offer faster lap times.
