The CFMoto 450SR is arguably one of the most exciting 400-500cc sports bikes out there. It has plenty of oomph, decent features, and sharp looks to make its Japanese counterparts sweat. Given the potential, CFMoto recently launched the 450SS (renamed 450SR) in America to take on the beloved Kawasaki Ninja 400. But with its Chinese origin, there’s plenty of conjecture around the motorcycle, which is what the bikemaker wants to address. How? Well, by allowing you to check the sports bike in the flesh.

The 450SR is set to receive an update, just one year after its global reveal

CFMoto USA has announced the timeline of the 450SS’ American debut. The motorcycle has already started reaching dealerships as we speak, with deliveries set for the next months. There’s also a nationwide demo tour in the pipeline to let you experience the 450SS (and its other models) in the flesh.

The exact dates aren’t out yet, but we do know the brand will be present at the Circuit of The Americas from April 14 to 16, 2023. Not only can you see it in the flesh, but there will be a short-closed circuit, in case you want to take any CFMoto for a spin. This will be followed by other stops at Americade, Laconia, Revzilla Get On! ADV Fest (at Black Hills), Bike Fest (at Lake of the Ozarks), and select MotoAmerica locations.

What Makes The CFMoto 450SS Special

Brembos, upside-down forks, aluminum wheels--all these should make the 450SR a swift handler

So why should you check out the 450SS? For starters, the motorcycle has a stellar design. Not only is it out of the ordinary (in the entry-level sports bike segment), but it’s equal parts premium. You’d also dig the details such as the aerodynamic wings, golden forks, and mirror-mounted LED indicators. We like the two liveries, Nebula Black and Zircon Black, as well. Once aboard, you’re greeted by a five-inch TFT instrument cluster, loaded with smartphone connectivity. This isn’t class-leading - the KTM RC 390 beats it - but still up to the mark.

The 2023 CFMoto 450SR takes on the Kawasaki Ninja 400 and KTM RC 390

At heart, the 450SS employs a 449cc, twin-cylinder engine that belts out 50 horsepower and 28.2 pound-feet. All the power reaches the ground via a six-speed transmission, paired with a slipper clutch. Meanwhile, the engine sits inside a Chro-Moly chassis (no points for guessing where that came from) that suspends on 37 mm upside-down forks and a monoshock. This is joined by 17-inch alloy wheels, single disc brakes, and a Brembo M40.32 caliper up top to round off the underpinnings.

Finally, the 2023 450SS retails at $5,499. This is just $200 more than the Kawasaki Ninja 400 and $300 less than the KTM RC 390, which makes it a solid deal. The Honda CBR500R, meanwhile, is nowhere in contention with its $7,299 price tag.
