The Jeep line of vehicles is definitely one of a kind, and with the new push for more EVs (electric vehicles) in the market, the automaker is making its offerings even better. While Jeep is best known for manufacturing vehicles to take you off the beaten path, their new line of electric vehicles has some eyebrows being raised - and for reasons that are quite understandable. Here's everything you need to know about the all-new 2024 Jeep Recon EV. Same name and reputation, just a different powertrain.

Like most new electric vehicles, the 2024 Recon has been completely designed around the powertrain. Utilizing the new STLA chassis, Jeep's new platform will have trail-rated capabilities and terrain management systems to maintain its off-road status. With the Wrangler being the go-to for adventure enthusiasts the Recon will have some massive hurdles to navigate, yet everything is building nicely for it to do so. Late last year, Jeep brand CEO Christian Meunier went on the record and noted that he thinks the new Wrangler and Recon, '... are going to be very complementary,' moving on to say, 'We believe there is huge potential for the two to co-exist.'

The key for the new Recon is not trying to replace the Wrangler in the eyes of Jeepsters, but to bring a whole new model to the table for those who may have not already been a part of the family. Meunier states that the Recon is, '... expected to attract newcomers to the brand which has been the case for the Wrangler 4xe - where two-thirds of customers have never had a Jeep before.' He further adds that he is sure the 'Recon will take that conquest rate to another level.' With the Jeep brand's mission moving full speed on building a fully electrified SUV lineup for the future, it is also keeping its iconic heritage intact while doing so.

The 2024 Recon is a visual masterpiece for sure. If Jeep's Wrangler 4xe was given Hummer DNA you would have a very similar-looking vehicle. From the wide, boxy nose and body to the removable doors, retractable roof, and rugged, high-profile tires, the Recon is a stunning example of what Jeep is truly capable of. The familiar seven-slot grille marks the front end with LED backlighting that almost transport you through the vehicle to the back where the spare rests on the back between the mid-placed square tail lights. Jeep design through and through, yet updated for a new generation.

The belt line sits high to give good ground clearance and keep the Recon in the 'off-road' category, and an extensive underbody system was used to protect the batteries from the harsh environments that come with adventure. With independent suspension and unibody construction, we can only assume that Jeep will be granting an all-wheel drive setup to complement any escapades undertaken. Out of four new STLA platforms (Small, Medium, Large, and Frame) used to accommodate the different electric models Jeep will introduce, the Recon is set to make use of the STLA Large given its size and proportions.

The most impressive thing about Jeep's new Recon is that it navigates through the adversity of using all electric power while still keeping the iconic trail-rated status. As EVs are more prevalent in the market today automakers are doing all they can to save face for their brand and keep pace with the demands of the world, and the bar for Jeep is set quite a bit higher. While still waiting for powertrain specifics, we do know that the STLA Large platform is able to employ the use of batteries over 100kW. Jeep has stated that their Wagoneer EV, which is based on the same STLA Large chassis, is looking to boast a 400-mile range with 600 horsepower and that's impressive. Add to that Jeep's Selec-Terrain traction management system, e-lock axles, and tow hooks, the outdoors are waiting just as anxiously as we are for the new Recon.

The 2024 Jeep Recon EV's price hasn't been set in stone just yet, and with production to take place next year we probably won't know how much it will cost until they start taking reservations once the official unit is unveiled. Looking at other models and value, estimates put the Recon in the base price range of about $60,000, and one thing that is inspiring is that it will be built right here in North America along with the new Wagoneer EV - which should help to offset costs. Christian Meunier (Jeep Brand CEO) also briefly touched on two new battery plants last year that are coming - one in Kokomo, Indiana and one Windsor, Ontario - to supply whichever future assembly plants are eventually assigned the new EVs. They will be assembled in North America, launch here first, and then be exported to Europe.

As the planet inches closer and closer towards full electrification of vehicles to satiate world governments and the Paris Agreement, Jeep is committing to a plan that would come to see over half of its sales being EVs alone by 2030. Falling in line with the UN's Net Zero goals many automakers are using 2030 as a noteworthy timestamp, and as the years move ever so close to this mark Jeep is definitely on top of the game. The militaristic heritage bodes well for the Recon's parent brand, because in this new age war of EVs sometimes the only weapon you need is a solid lineage.
